More than 10 main programs dedicated to Indonesian and international photographers at JIPFest, the country’s first international photography festival, happening from 25 July to July 9, 2019.
The Exhibition program, scheduled for June 25 to July 9, will be taking over outdoor and indoor spaces across the city. Over 30 Indonesian and international photographers will be presenting thought-provoking works, which revolve around the festival’s main theme – Identity. Citizens and tourists would be encountering these photographs at the festival’s main venue, Taman Ismail Marzuki (TIM), as well as public spaces in Jakarta including parks, cafes, shopping centers, museums and tourist attractions.
In line with JIPFest’s core mission of education, respected figures in local and global photography scene will be discussing, sharing and dissecting contemporary issues on Intensive Workshops (June 28-July 2), Panel Discussions (July 4-7) and Public Lectures (July 4-6). The Intensive Workshops will cover four skillsets directly related to photography: Curatorial, Critics, Visual Story Telling and Photo Book Making.
In an effort to promote welfare among photographers, JIPFest provides a platform to showcase photographers’ works and projects to their intended audience groups. The Bazaar (July 3-7) is a marketplace for photographers, agencies and collectives to offer their products and services. On Artist Talks (July 4-7) and Projection Nights (July 4-6), photographers can present their ongoing projects to a live audience. Meanwhile, Portfolio Review (July 4-6) provides an opportunity for photographers and users (including collectors, photo editors and gallery owners) to have a constructive face-to-face session.
An ode to its home city, JIPFest will present a number of programs to celebrate Jakarta. The Urban Photo Tour (June 29 & 30) is an expert-guided street photography tour around town. The Performances (July 3 & 7) will see homegrown music and dance talents respond to the festival’s main theme or a specific photography. Meanwhile, the VIP Dinner (July 3) is a gathering night for Indonesian and international photography communities.
JIPFest welcomes Indonesian photographers to propose their own programs as a part the festival. Agencies, collectives and photography communities may host presentations, discussions or photo book launches. These programs will be categorized as Fringe events (July 3-7) and listed in the JIPFest’s official Program Book.
