This year, a total of four Urban Photo Tour sessions are available, each will be guided by experienced mentors: Safir Makki, Widya Sartika Amrin, Homer Harianja, and Chris Tuarissa. This educational and entertaining program is dedicated to those who wish to learn and enjoy street photography.

During the tour, participants will explore Blok M and its surroundings. Each mentor will then select the best photos taken from the tour, and will present them to the public in the Projection Night session at Bulungan Theater.

REQUIREMENTS

  1. The festival welcomes participants of any nationality, aged 18 years or older 
  2. Bring your digital camera of any type (not a mobile phone camera)

TOUR SCHEDULE

Tour 1: Saturday, 10 September, 07:00-13:00
Mentor: Safir Makki 

Route: Walking through the urban kampong area in Cipete, exploring the area hidden behind the glamorous Kemang neighborhood, then visiting Blok M area. Best photos from the tour will be screened in the Projection Night session at Bulungan Theater on 17 September, 19:00-20:00.

Safir Makki 
Safir has been working as a photojournalist since 2004 and now is working as a News Coverage Coordinator and Photographer at CNN Indonesia web. In between works, Safir explores street photography. Through Streetventure Jakarta, which he co-founded, he runs street photography workshops at home and abroad.

Tour 2: Sunday, 11 September, 07:30-13:00
Mentor: Widya Sartika Amrin

Route: Spend your Sunday morning by exploring two legendary shopping centers in South Jakarta: Taman Puring and Pasar Kebayoran. Best photos from the tour will be screened in the Projection Night session at Bulungan Theater on 24 September, 19:00-20:00.

Widya Sartika Amrin
Widya is the co-founder of Streetventure Jakarta and Indonesia on the Streets. Her first photo book, 30X Paris, was published in 2017. Widya got her first knowledge in photography from his late father. She then participated in several photo workshops with mentors include Shahidul Alam, Yudhi Soerjoatmodjo, and Markus Schaden.

Tour 3: Saturday, 17 September, 07:00-13:00
Mentor: Homer Harianja

Route:  Starting at Soup N Film, participants will be exploring scenic areas in Blok M, including Barito Park and M Bloc, followed by a short trip on MRT to the Gelora Bung Karno pedestrian bridge in Senayan. Best photos from the tour will be screened in the Projection Night session at Bulungan Theater on 17 September, 19:00-20:00.

Homer Harianja
Homer lives in Yogyakarta and spends a lot of film rolls at Malioboro Street. In 2017, he was selected as finalist of London Street Photography Festival and finalist in analog category at the StreetPhoto San Francisco. Homer has authored two photo books: As I Was Moving Ahead (2015) and Sixty Sixx (2016).

Tour 4: Sunday, 18 September, 07:30-13:00
Mentor: Chris Tuarissa

Route: Reminiscing Blok M neighborhood during 90s by visiting its legendary sites, including Pasaraya, Gramedia, Melawai Street, Gultik, Mahakam, and Barito Park. Best photos from the tour will be screened in the Projection Night session at Bulungan Theater on 24 September, 19:00-20:00.

Chris Tuarissa
Chris is the founder of @maklumfoto, a digital communal platform for street photography enthusiasts. His work has been published in various publications, and exhibited at Galeri Paramata in 2018 and Bandung Photography Month 2021. In 2016, his photo was included in the roundup of PetaPixel’s Best Street Photos.
