The 2022 edition of Jakarta International Photo Festival (JIPFest) will take place in Blok M, South Jakarta, from 9-25 September. We invite photographers and artists worldwide to submit photographic and photo-based multimedia works with a diverse visual approach. The proposal to the open call should reflect the festival theme, Revival. Within the cultural fields, our understanding of revival refers to the condition in which one’s cultural aspects have been recovered after losses due to several reasons, such as colonialism, modernism, and cultural oppression. JIPFest introduces the curatorial team for its third edition: Asep Topan, Ayos Purwoaji, and Ng Swan Ti. The three of them are active in different communities, and are hoped to possess the ability to enrich the dialogue within this year’s festival theme, REVIVAL. Asep has built a career in the visual art scene as an educator and curator, while Ayos has a background as an architectural researcher and is now a professional writer and curator with interests in history, architecture, and visual art. JIPFest, the nomadic photo festival, will host its third edition in Blok M, South Jakarta on 9-25 September 2022. Throughout 17 days, JIPFest 2022 will present 16 programs in several spots around Blok M, including public parks, historical sites, galleries, and a performance theatre. Initially scheduled for 2020, the second edition of JIPFest had to be shifted to 2021 due to the pandemic. Under strict health protocols, the festival was officiated by the Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria and ran from 13-28 November 2021 at the historic sites around Jakarta Old Town.
