At JIPFest, you can be more than visitors – you have the opportunity to create your own event within the festival! If you have ideas for photography-related events, bring them to life by submitting your proposal to our Fringe program. Fringe is open to both individuals and organizations. During the first edition of JIPFest in 2021, we have successfully supported 17 fringe events including discussions, exhibitions, workshops, and photo book launches. Following the completion of the Photo Curatorial Workshop, JIPFest and the workshop mentors—Boaz Levin and The Secret Agents (Indra Ameng & Keke Tumbuan)—have selected one exhibition proposal to be realized in JIPFest 2022. The workshop is part of Road to JIPFest 2021 program, and is organized in collaboration with Goethe-Institut Indonesien. Out of the 12 proposals from 12 workshop participants, the chosen proposal is by Arif Furqan. Titled “Family to Nation”, Furqan’s exhibition proposal uses photo archives of family portraits as a starting point. JIPFest announces 12 selected participants of the upcoming Photo Critique Workshop. The program is organized in partnership with Erasmus Huis and supported by 1000Kata, Arkademy and Ruang Baca Foto. The participants are chosen from an open call between 1 – 25 July 2021, in which 58 registrants from 14 provinces within Indonesia and one country outside Indonesia applied to. The participants will undergo eight virtual workshop classes with mentors Bambang Bujono (Indonesia) and Merel Bem (the Netherlands) between 20 August – 16 September 2021. The participants are chosen from an open call between 1-27 June 2021, in which 49 registrants from 10 provinces within Indonesia and 2 areas outside Indonesia applied. As part of Road to JIPFest 2021, the photo festival organizes Tambal Lubang: Photo Critique Workshop to cultivate and forge photo critics in Indonesia. The program is organized in partnership with Erasmus Huis and supported by 1000Kata, Arkademy and Ruang Baca Foto. The workshop consists of eight online classes, scheduled for August-September 2021. The subject includes history and development of photo critique, methods of photo critic, and writing techniques for various media. The program will also challenge participants to write photo critiques, while at the same time giving them an opportunity to publish it on three of the program’s publication
Welcoming its second edition, JIPFest collaborates with the Goethe-Institut Indonesien to launch Road to JIPFest program series, including Tambal Lubang: Photo Curatorial Workshop. This program aims to cultivate young curators in Indonesia. Topics discussed in this online class include the role of curator, presentation of works, to concepting and management of photo exhibitions. In the span of eight weeks, participants will also build a curatorial approach and develop the concept of exhibition curatorial projects through case studies, presentations and open discussions. The second edition of Jakarta International Photo Festival (JIPFest) is scheduled for 13-28 November 2021 at the legendary Kota Tua (Old Town) in the northern part of Jakarta. Most of the major events will take place in historical buildings within the area, many of them Dutch heritage colonial buildings.
